Surfboards. the cost of flying with surfboards varies by airline. most airlines will take your surfboard for a fee, but there are some airlines that do not accept surfboards as checked baggage.. Going on a surf trip to africa you most likely need to cay your surfbard on a plane. the fees vary much from company to company though. travelling with a surfboard is pretty easy but often you have to pay extra for the odd size luggage.. Re: taking surfboard on a plane - ever been damaged? by monkey_alan » sun feb 08, 2009 9:27 pm been mostly really lucky with this, but copped a quite deep pressure ding right in the middle of one of the boards when travelling back from indo last year.. For surf boards, the following precautions must be taken: fins should always be removed, or, if they cannot be removed, should be firmly packed with polystyrene foam. both nose and tail should have bubble-wrap or neoprene foam attached for protection.. Just found out - and we fly out this morning - that jeststar from darwin to denpasar have a limit to 1.9m long for surfboards. my sons "shortboards" are about 1.9m and 2m packed in a longboard bag that he says is about 2.2m long..
