The rules are simple for a new race this summer — captain a non-motorized boat 750 miles from washington state to alaska, self-supported. choose your own route to get there.. No motor, no support, all the way to alaska. the physical endurance, saltwater know-how, and bulldog tenacity to navigate the 750 cold water miles from port townsend, washington, to ketchikan, alaska..

The race is open to tandem canoes and kayaks, voyageur canoes and pairs of solo canoes and kayaks. according to coates, the river is too big and the race too lonely to allow solo competitors. from this year forward, the race will take place every other year with the next race occurring in 2014.. The yukon river quest is one of the most spectacular paddling races in the world. participants take off from whitehorse on june 24 and paddle the 740 km (460mi) to reach dawson city in marathon time, usually within 48 hours..
