Building a houseboat or building a floating home is still possible today. and with houseboat plans and dedication you can build a trailerable houseboat, a shantyboat, or a tiny house that floats!. A houseboat (different from boathouse, which is a shed for storing boats) is a boat that has been designed or modified to be used primarily as a home. some houseboats are not motorized, because they are usually moored , kept stationary at a fixed point and often tethered to land to provide utilities.. First, if i may….. i worked for a company that tried to build a houseboat without any regards to weight. it was a pontoon platform…., when they got it in the water it sank…., at that point they decided that they needed someone that knew something about boats ( wakarusa, indiana, around 1984)..
