Boat Wont Stay On Plane

I just had the fuel filter replaced. the issue seemed to be getting worse over the last 3 months. at first i coould do a few s turns and it would slowly coma up on plane. usually th rpms stay around 2800 and as th boat picked up speed they would rise and then i could throttle back to cruise at 3200. I just bought a new boat well new to me that is. its a 2000 four winns 248 vista. it is a full cruiser so it is pretty big 26.2 loa. it is powered by a 5.7 volvo penta gs. i know this boat isint going to win any races but it wont hardly even plane out. this was our first weekend out on it except for our test drive.. While on plane the motor would go to idle speed and will not go back on plane until engine cools down. when this happens the boat won't go over 5 mph. does anyone have an idea what is causing this to happen.

The second thing you can do is put on some kind of hydrofoil to your cavition plate on your drive systems lower unit. these hydrofoils look like wings and are designed to help lift the stern of the boat at initial take off which makes the boat get up on plane quicker. they are made of either aluminum or some kind of composit plastic material.. Mercury outboard inline 6 1500 , this feature is not available right now. please try again later.. Re: boat wont plane, low rpms reving those engines to 4k in neutral is a good way to destroy them. besides, an engine running on half its cylinders will rev to the moon with no load..
